It is with great pleasure that we invite you to participate in the jubilee GIG-PIB Mining the future: sustainable development and energy transformation in EU Conference. The conference is organized as part of the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the Central Mining Institute – National Research Institute (GIG-PIB).

This is an extraordinary opportunity to look back on decades of innovation and the Institute’s contribution to the development of mining and geoengineering, occupational safety in industry, environmental engineering, and at the same time focus on the future challenges and opportunities that lie ahead of us.

During the first day of the conference, we will focus on the energy transformation, with particular emphasis on mining areas. We will analyze European experiences in the context of good practices, structural transformations and socio-economic adaptation in relation to the processes taking place in Poland, discussing, among others, new models of development of post-mining areas and the use of their potential, the impact of the transformation on the economy and local communities, including challenges related to the retraining of mining sector employees.

The second day of the conference will be devoted to the future of mining and its role in the circular economy. Discussions will include, among others: issues related to the use of mining competences in the extraction and processing of mining waste (anthropogenic mining), obtaining critical raw materials and rare earth elements from waste, secondary resources and modern technologies for their processing, and innovative solutions supporting sustainable resource management.

In an era of dynamic technological changes and challenges related to energy transformation, we want to connect leading experts, representatives of industry, the world of science and political decision-makers with this conference to jointly discuss the achievements and challenges that await mining, the energy industry and the transformed regions. Lectures, discussion panels and networking sessions will provide inspiration and allow for establishing valuable professional contacts. We cordially invite you to participate and Mine the Future.
